Riwayat Al Imam Qaloon
A dedicated course in the Qaloon narration of Naafi' Al-Madani — one of the most historically significant schools of Quranic recitation, taught one-to-one online by qualified teachers for advanced students and those pursuing Ijaazah.
The Narration of Qaloon from Naafi' Al-Madani
Qaloon is one of the two principal narrations of the Naafi' Al-Madani Qira'ah — the school of Quranic recitation established by Imam Naafi' ibn Abd al-Rahman, who studied under seventy companions of the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah and became the foremost authority on Quranic recitation of his era. Qaloon was Naafi's most distinguished student, and his narration preserves the precise recitation he received directly from his teacher with an unbroken chain back to the Prophet ﷺ.
The Qaloon narration is distinguished by a number of specific rules that differ from the more widely known Hafs an Asim recitation — including its treatment of Madd, Hamzah, idgham, and certain vowel markings. These differences are precise, scholarly, and authenticated; learning them requires a qualified teacher who can correct your recitation with the accuracy the narration demands. Approximately 7% of the global Muslim population recites in Qaloon an Naafi, making it one of the most widely practised narrations outside of Hafs.
Our online Qaloon course is designed for advanced students who already recite fluently in Hafs an Asim and want to learn this narration under proper scholarly guidance — whether to broaden their knowledge of the Ten Qira'at, to pursue a formal Ijaazah in Qaloon, or to deepen their connection with the Madinah tradition of Quranic transmission. All classes are delivered one-to-one with an experienced, qualified teacher.
